This large, wide porcelain bowl was stained gray before being thrown on the wheel and then carved and altered at a precise stage of drying—when the clay was firm enough to hold its shape but still flexible enough to manipulate. The result is a form that seems to push against gravity, with an intentionally irregular profile that gives the bowl a sense of movement.
The surface is finished with a snowflake glaze that cracks as it cools from the extreme heat of the kiln, creating a layered, dimensional surface that changes with the light. This is a one-of-a-kind sculptural piece, made as much to be viewed as to be held. This piece is not food safe.
